Tips for sharp app icons and favicons
A great pixel icon reads clearly at a glance, so keep the silhouette bold and the palette tight — two or three colors is plenty. Design at the native grid (16×16 is the sweet spot for favicons and game HUD icons) rather than shrinking a big image, which muddies the edges. Every export here uses nearest-neighbor scaling, so a 16×16 icon blown up to 256px stays perfectly crisp with no blur. For favicons, export both 16 and 32px versions; for app stores, 128 or 256px covers most requirements. The Random icon button is a fun way to spark ideas — roll a few, keep the one you like, then tweak. Because everything runs locally on your device, you can iterate as much as you want and your work never leaves the browser.
Are these pixel emoji copyrighted?
No. Every icon is drawn from scratch by code — simple geometric shapes like hearts, stars and swords. Nothing is copied from an emoji font or image set, so the PNGs you export are yours to use freely in games, apps and favicons.
What size should I export for a favicon or app icon?
Use the preset buttons: 16px and 32px are classic favicon sizes, 48px suits Windows tiles, and 64, 128 and 256px cover most app-icon and store needs. Every export is nearest-neighbor scaled so the pixels stay razor sharp.
Can I edit an icon after generating it?
Yes. Load any template, then use the pencil, eraser, fill and eyedropper to tweak individual pixels. You can also recolor the whole icon with the primary and secondary color pickers or roll a random palette. Note that changing size or recoloring regenerates the base template, so do manual pixel edits last.
Does the generator upload my icons anywhere?
No. The entire tool runs in your browser using an HTML canvas. Your icons are never sent to a server — downloads and clipboard copies happen entirely on your device.
